Charles Dickens

He published over thirty books, including Oliver Twist (1838), David Copperfield (1849) and A Christmas Carol (1843), in his life and even went on a reading tour in America.

Charles Dickens was born in 1812 near Portsmouth where his father was a clerk in the navy office. His family moved to London but fell on hard times; Charles was sent to a blacking warehouse and his father was imprisoned for debt. These experiences heavily influenced his writing. 

He died in 1870, at the age of 58.
